It all began with a trip to America by the Hamburg banker Alfred Nehemias and the Berlin engineer August Eberstein. There, they had gathered a wealth of experience in the manufacture of fountain pens, which they used to return to Germany in 1906. After a short time, the merchant Claus-Johannes Voss joined the two entrepreneurs and together they laid the foundation for what would become a globally successful company. In 1909, Montblanc's first safety fountain pen "Rouge et Noir" was successfully launched.
In the mid-thirties, the company expanded its range to include exquisite leather goods, which it produced primarily in Florence, a city with a centuries-old tradition in this field. After the manufactories in Hamburg and Offenbach were destroyed during the Second World War, Montblanc subsequently managed to rebuild and start up its production. The brand consolidated its reputation as a manufacturer of writing instruments for stars and statesmen.
